Every key has its merits. But if you ask me about one of my favorite keys, Ab Major is definitely right up there. Why, you ask?
Ab Major simply has a beautifully mellow sound.
But there’s a small catch: With the standard fingering, you won’t get far with the Ab Major scale. And the chords also require a bit of know-how.
The good news: In this post, I’ll show you how to play the Ab Major chords and also how to avoid running out of fingers when playing the Ab Major scale. Sound good? Then let’s dive in.
Ab Major Scale
We’ll jump right into the topic and start with the Ab Major scale.
You’re probably eager to play the Ab Major scale now. For that to work, here are the black keys you’ll need. There are four of them: Ab, Bb, Db, and Eb.
So what does that mean if you want to play the Ab Major scale now?
You play the notes:
Ab – Bb – C – Db – Eb – F – G – Ab
Sheet music
You might already know that I prefer to make music intuitively. You don’t necessarily need sheet music for that. Nevertheless – for completeness – here are the notes for Ab Major.
Piano keyboard with fingering
Great. You now know the notes of the Ab Major scale and what the sheet music looks like. Now comes arguably the most important part so you can make music in Ab Major: the fingering.
The Ab Major scale starts directly with two black keys. That’s a bit special. It ensures that we do NOT start with the thumb on Ab. But the solution is easy. Believe me.
We start with the index and middle fingers. They play Ab and Bb. Afterwards, we play C with the thumb and the next two notes – Db and Eb – again with the second and third fingers. And then the same pattern again: F with the thumb. G with the index finger. Ab with the middle finger.
That might sound complex in theory. But in practice, it’s really easy to play this sequence. You simply play:
2 – 3 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 1 – 2 – 3
Now you can already play the Ab Major scale. Awesome.

How to play every song on the piano
Do you want to play your favorite songs on the piano just like that? Without notes, without tutorials and without learning apps? In your own personal version?
Or do you simply want to spontaneously improvise your musical ideas on the piano? For yourself alone or in front of an audience?

Play Piano by Intuition
Because intuitive piano playing does without sheet music and classical theory, you learn it as quickly as you learned to speak as a child.
While for others the piano remains a “typewriter for notes”, you understand its tones and which combinations always sound right. You can express yourself through the piano – like a small child who has just learned to speak.
In future, you will be able to rely on your intuition in any situation: You will become immune to wrong notes because you will see the right keys in your mind’s eye even before you press them.
In my free workshop I will show you how it works.
