Learning an instrument costs a lot of money. Have you ever heard that sentence? And perhaps internalized it so much that you yourself believe it?

Who can blame you? Certainly not me! Because I know from my own experience how much dough, moolah, cash you can put into sheet music and piano lessons.

But you know what? Piano lessons don’t have to be expensive if you know what’s right for you! And that’s a good thing. After all, you want to invest in yourself. And not in printed paper or piano learning subscriptions.

What is the alternative to the classic piano lesson, you ask? How can you play without sheet music, you want to know? I’ll tell you. And not only that. I’ll also give you free access to a piano lesson workshop that will help you get started with intuitive piano playing. Completely without sheet music. Completely without a piano teacher.

So then. Let’s take a look at the prices for piano lessons – and discover a really exciting alternative.

The prices for piano lessons: Online and in person

The world is digitally connected. For you and me, that means: we do an incredible amount online. Maybe you made a digital payment yesterday. Wrote to your loved ones via a messenger. And established a VPN connection to your employer for your work in the home office.

Before it gets too technical – I just want to show you how our world has changed through the Internet. Not only in professional life. But also when it comes to everyday life and hobbies. And yes, music too.

Why am I telling you all this?

Well, you can now learn to play the piano online. And the selection of methods for learning piano is really gigantic.

Because digital piano lessons are gaining more and more momentum, I don’t want to leave out the online options when comparing prices.

So, let’s take a look at the current piano lesson costs.

Piano lesson prices with a piano teacher

Before inflation, the costs for piano lessons with a piano teacher in your area averaged around 31 euros (for 30 minutes) across Germany. Today, prices are likely to be significantly higher. The average lesson prices varied greatly from region to region. While you can get a lesson in Rostock for 15 euros, the price in Munich for the same lesson is 40 euros.

Wow, what a difference.

But either way: If you – as is usual with on-site piano lessons – take piano lessons once a week, you put between 60 and 160 euros on the table every month. Phew, not that little at all. But what is the alternative?

Learning piano doesn't have to be expensive

Piano lesson prices at music schools

Would you like to reduce the costs for your piano lessons, but not do without the professionalism of a piano teacher? Then lessons in a music school might be something for you.

The price per lesson is usually lower here than with a private teacher. Plus: Music schools often offer a free trial lesson. So for you, it’s an opportunity to first get a taste of whether you even want to learn piano at all.

The costs are still too high for you? Then there is the option of taking group lessons at a music school. You then learn in a group with other people who are at the same level of knowledge as you. You share the costs for the lessons. This makes the price for the piano lessons cheaper. But be careful: Your piano teacher cannot respond to you as individually in the group as in individual lessons.

Enough of the teacher on site. There is another method of learning to play the piano. And it is currently particularly popular. That’s right, I’m talking about online piano lessons.

Why this variant can be worthwhile for you – even if you are an absolute beginner on the piano – you will find out at the end of this article.

Piano lesson prices online

As with on-site piano lessons, there are also massive differences online. Both in terms of price. But also conceptually.

There are the apps for learning piano. Some apps provide you with a combination of theory and practice. Other apps motivate you to start playing immediately. And still others help you to simply put your favorite songs on the keyboard.

Cheap, but also effective? - Playing the piano with an app

But what does the pricing look like here?

If you’ve already taken a look at the most common piano apps, then you know: There is usually a subscription model behind the applications. The prices? Totally different. But they usually range between 20 and 30 euros per month. The longer you commit, the cheaper the monthly costs become.

How much piano lessons do you need? And for how long?

The question of all questions. It always stands like an elephant in the room. And not infrequently causes sad faces. Why? You’ll find out in a moment. How often should you take piano lessons?

Seriously: This question brings beads of sweat to my forehead. 30 minutes? 45 minutes? 60 minutes? Once or twice a week? Or much more often?

Honest answer: Make sure you need as little lessons as possible.

Let me tell you a story about that.

When I was young – and I mean really young. A little plug on the piano. I went to piano lessons once a week. In between, I practiced motivated and gradually got better and better. And then at some point the shock.

I couldn’t get any better.

Was it the lessons? My piano teacher? Me?

NO. It was simply the concept.

Every week I had to learn random new things that I didn’t really want to play. Old clunkers like Greensleves, Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen or Kumbaya. What for? Honestly: I hated these pieces and they spoiled my enjoyment of playing the piano more and more.

Actually, I didn’t want any more lessons. I had enough. In plain English: I was fed up with instructive lessons and scribbled sheet music.

Why am I telling you this? Because I want to show you that making music is much more than having to sit down at the piano at a certain time on a certain day and perform.

Piano lessons should be free. And ideally cost nothing.

Cost nothing! Now Gordon November is completely crazy. That’s what you think, right?

I can only agree with you from your perspective. You’re right. And yet you’re wrong.

Ideally, with every piano lesson you learn how to play your instrument without a piano teacher and without sheet music. Sure, you have to pay something during this learning process. But once you have acquired the appropriate knowledge, you never have to spend another cent on a piano lesson.

You give yourself lessons by simply playing what you like and getting better. That sounds fantastic, doesn’t it?

A few months of piano lessons are enough!

For me, good music lessons mean: enabling you to grow on your own.

Sounds pretty philosophical, doesn’t it? But it’s not.

Imagine you don’t need to take any more piano lessons? You don’t spend any money on music schools, piano teachers or apps. And you still get better and better. And above all: always freer on the piano.

This dream scenario can become reality.

How’s that?

You simply need the right tools. Someone who shows you what you need to know in order to be able to play the piano. And that without sheet music. Without complex music theory. And without weekly piano lessons.

That person is me. Hi, I’m Gordon November. And I would like to take you into the world of the Intuinauts.
