Learning an instrument takes forever!
Is that so? I’m telling you: no. But first, let’s take a look at little Gordon.
Gordon, that’s me. Today, of course, no longer small and successful as a pianist and songwriter.
My younger self – who diligently practiced the piano every day – would have told you that it takes a lot of time and effort to learn the piano. I just didn’t know any better back then.
What was my problem?
I took classical piano lessons. Weekly. With a piano teacher. My parents assumed that this was the best way to give me a musical education. And yes, I enjoyed it.
But at some point, I came to a point where I noticed: I’m just not getting anywhere. After many years of piano lessons, I was still dependent on sheet music, had terrible stage fright before performances, and was always afraid of hitting the ‘wrong note’.
Playing the piano is no fun that way.
I wanted to pack it in. Give up. Banish the piano from my life. Until I discovered a completely new way of making music for myself.
Playing the piano by intuition.
That would change my musical life forever. But more on that later.
Why am I telling you this anecdote from my life?
Well, I want to show you that learning the piano CAN take a very long time. But it DOESN’T HAVE TO.
If you want to learn classical sheet music and cram with a piano teacher, it will probably take forever until you can really confidently play impressive songs on the piano.
But it’s much faster. How? I’ll show you in the course of this article.
Learning piano as an adult - but how?
Let me guess. You’re an adult. Your time is precious. Either you are very busy with your job and would like to learn to play the piano in your free time. Or you are already retired and have a lot of time to devote to your new hobby. However, you don’t want to spend the rest of your life just practicing, but are eager to get started.
Either way, time is money. Your lifetime is limited. And in this time you want to have a great time at the piano. That means: Hit the keys, make the keyboard your own and be able to play your current favorite song spontaneously.
With classical lessons, that will probably take a long time.
So what to do?
I’m telling you: Trust your intuition!
Now you’re saying to yourself: “Trust your own intuition? Sounds a bit strange. How am I supposed to be able to intuitively play the right notes on the piano as a complete beginner?”
Valid objection. But let me explain it to you briefly.
By intuitive piano playing, I mean making music without sheet music. Instead, you use your knowledge of chords, related notes, and your ear for music.
Phew, how is that supposed to work?, you ask yourself.
With appropriate instruction.
This is how you learn to play the piano in record time
As a child, you have all the time in the world. That’s right. If you start learning piano as a child, you have the time to cram sheet music, understand music theory, and memorize pieces. You feel like you have forever.
That changes in adulthood. Because: Our time is finite. And what we could have learned as a child, we can no longer catch up on in terms of time.
A dilemma that prevents many adults from learning the piano. I know it very well. Because I keep getting inquiries about whether it’s still worth learning to play the piano as an adult. And how long it takes.
My answer: It all depends on what kind of piano lessons you choose.
Imagine: You start with a piano course. From the beginning, you realize that you are musical. With each time at your keyboard instrument, you get better and better. And after a few months, you can play all your favorite songs and pieces. Without sheet music. Just like that.
Sounds like the dream come true of every piano novice, doesn’t it? Everyone who learns to play the piano hopes to get to this point. You certainly do too. But maybe you had to realize on your journey so far that it’s not that easy after all. That playing the piano challenges you quite a bit. You may have even ventured into a course that takes a long time. But it didn’t get you to your goal.
What you want is to learn piano with fun. And quickly. Efficiently. And independent of sheet music.
Great. I have the solution for you.
All you need is the right course with the right concept. And I advise you to take the Masterclass Intuition. An online piano course that will turn you into a free pianist in no time.

The good news: You can avoid the dilemma. You don’t have to go through the frustration and all the pain. Instead, you can look forward to rapid progress day after day.
