Don't make the same mistakes as most beginners: Clarify the following before you learn piano

Before you even touch a key, you should definitely answer these four crucial questions. They could save you years of frustration and endless effort.

Why I'm writing this post
When I was in your situation, I always thought: A piano teacher will show you how to make all your musical dreams come true with this magical piano instrument.
Dream on: Instead, there was a grumpy guy who always rapped my knuckles when I typed a wrong note into the piano. I was disappointed – just like millions of piano students before me.
Deswegen: Heute bringe ich Leuten wie Dir bei, wie Du innerhalb weniger Tage intuitiv alles am Klavier spielen kannst, was Du willst. So bist Du unabhängig von Noten, Apps und Tutorials. Und vor allem: Du wirst glücklich sein!

1. What should your life at the piano look like?
So that you can find the right learning method for you, you should have a clear idea of what you want to experience on the piano:
Do you want to give classical piano concerts or would you rather play for yourself? Maybe you would also like to play in a band or accompany yourself while singing?
Most people don’t think about it for long. And that’s their first big mistake: Without a clear vision, they get lost in endless standard exercises, learn dry music theory and beginner songs that they don’t like at all. Playing the piano becomes torture and they give up.
That’s how it went for me: I learned classical sheet music exercises for years and played boring songs like “Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen” – just because my piano teacher wanted that.
Many piano teachers still teach like this today. This costs time, energy and usually also self-confidence – because you lose faith in yourself and your dream remains far away.
I’ll explain how you can avoid such frustrating experiences in this video:
2. What do you want to play?
Classical, jazz, pop – or improvise freely? If you don’t know exactly what kind of music you want to play, you can quickly become frustrated. Many beginners try to learn everything at once and lose focus. The result? They don’t play anything really well and end up dissatisfied.
The wrong music selection can massively hinder your progress. But if you know exactly what you want to play, you can find a way that specifically takes you there.
And how you can find it, I’ll tell you right away.

3. What should your daily learning routine look like?
Have you ever thought about what your daily practice should look like? Do you want to study sheet music for hours or would you rather start playing right away – what’s on your mind right now?
If you choose the wrong method here, your daily learning routine can quickly become torture. “Intuitive pianists” play what their heart tells them to relax after a stressful day.
For sheet music players, on the other hand, the piano is often a compulsory exercise. They can hardly muster the strength for it in the evening because reading sheet music is so exhausting. They give up their dream of playing the piano again. Unfortunately.
What many don’t know:
Eine ganze Industrie lässt Dich denken, dass Du Noten oder Apps brauchst, um Klavier zu spielen – weil sie damit Geld verdienen. Dabei sind Noten nur eine Methode, um Musik aufzuschreiben. So wie Buchstaben in der Sprache.
Nobody would claim that speaking only works with letters, right?
And so it is with playing the piano: If you have intuitively understood the music, then sheet music is at most a “memory aid” for you.

4. Who can teach you that?
Many beginners make the mistake of grabbing the first piano teacher or online course they can find without questioning whether the teacher really suits them. This often leads to them learning for years using a method that doesn’t suit them.
Always be aware: A teacher only teaches you what he is good at himself. Do you want to play classical piano concerts – learn from a concert pianist.
If you prefer to play your favorite songs intuitively, without sheet music, or if you want to improvise freely, then find a teacher who can do exactly that and shares this passion with you.
